MINUTES OF MEETING - OCTOBER 30th, 2004

The following are the minutes (should I say 2hours) of the meeting held in the Staff Room (out of bounds when we were students) at 5:00pm on 30th October 2004. The following persons attended:

Mrs. Pillay, Neena Sethi and Sujata from MIS and some alumni from other batches. I must not forget that Sanjeev Madan, 1983 Batch, donated a computer to the Alumni Association.

Batch of 1980 (hold your breath)- Aditya, Pranab, Sricharan, Saugoto, Shelley, Gouran, Amit (Singha), Pankaj, Kamal(BL Co.),the extremely stunning ladies Snigdha and Anita Yadav (kindly refer to my extremely unpopular quote  on wine and ageing) and yours truly.

The following could not make it: Arti, Rashmi, Ravinder Chawla,Mahua and Ranjeet Borar.

The following were conspicuous by their absence Ajay Leekha and Yogesh Gupta.

General Discussions were held about the programme on the 26th of Jan.2005-they are as follows-

1. School Orchestra

2. Cricket Match and other competitions for the children

3. Talent Fiesta for the school children

4. Financial implications

It was subsequently decided to hold another meeting (government style) on the 20th of November at 5:00pm to thrash out and finalize the details of the programme.

The meeting faded into an end.

The batch of 1980 who were all the time trying to exchange notes and catch up with the old friends subsequently met and procceeded to conduct a meeting in a lot of confusion and noise. The financial aspects of the programme were discussed (this comes close to 1.2lakhs). Several members deposited the money they had brought with them and this was handed over to Sujata of MIS (this amount was Rs. 26500).Others promised to make arrangements at the earliest. This list will be circulated the moment we get the receipts from Sujata. Some persons were taking pictures of the 1980 Batch and I conveniently positioned myself between the two beautiful ladies. The meeting again fizzled to an end with several chaps (trying to get the girls numbers and) planning to go for a beer.

Now for some extra news- Saugoto looks so young- nobody would think he was a professor. Pranab looks like a Delhi policeman- a little fat and a little late. Shelley remembers Mr. Shekhar's hand in his upbringing. He is much thinner than those days.

Amit looks like an older Amitabh Bacchan-see ek hi raasta. I would write paeans about the two beautiful ladies but i cannot entice the wrath of their husbands (one wine drinker after my life is enough). Sricharan looks so young and athletic. Aditya looks like the typical 'girl's concerned father' in the movies. The following do not have beards-yours truly and Pankaj Bhatnagar. Gouran looks like her picture on Ravi's site. Sujata is beautiful and Neena Sethi (was it mirch) looks exactly like she did when we were students.

Mrs. Pillay looks the same (but gets lapses of memory). I must add that this was a unique experience for me. I have no doubt

travelled 25 years in time and have come to the same place to meet the very same people that I was with 25 years back- Kismet: I am sure there is some divine intervention at play here. Do any of you too experience that. I am not so sure if I was at any other school I would have experienced this. I know that Harpreet is not planning to come but this I have to say to you Harpreet- do come. You will not get another chance like this in another 25 years. To my other friend I have to say- please spend your time to find each and every person of this batch- they were good people and we may not get a chance to meet them again in another 25 years or may be never.

I have just finished my Ward rounds and I thought that it was my duty to inform you about the meeting as some of you have shown immense enthusiasm. Got to go now. I am sure Aditya and the convenor of the meeting Gouran will fill you on any

details of the meeting and gossip that I have missed.

Latest Information as of Oct 15th, 2004

The planning meeting is scheduled for Oct 30th in N. Delhi, hosted by Sunil Chumber, Gouran Lal and Aditya Ahluwalia. If you would like to attend please contact either of them for details.

What do we want to achieve on the 30th meeting?

1.  Finalize the plans for 26th January (One idea which has come forward is a concert by the MIS school ensemble followed by lunch served through some exciting food stalls)

2.  Finalize the dinner (outside school) for 25th January. Narendra, Shelly and others seem to agree with this. I have suggested Habitat Centre on Lodhi Road as the venue.

3.  Have a fix on total pledges received and how much more can be expected. Everyone please start sending your pledges. We have already received a few pledges. We expect a MINIMUM of Rs. 2000 from every resident 1980 alumni and $100 from MIS NRIs.

4.  Sponsorship of Alumni T-shirts for the batch of 2005 and the silver jubilee T-shirts for the 1980 batch. (200 T-shirts @ Rs. 200 each – Rs. 40,000)

5.   Finalize the video and photo-album/year-book idea

6.    Seek volunteers from within ourselves to form committees to look after the above activities

After the meeting we will post the details and results of the meeting
