A. Gulabi
Note: we haven't made direct contact with her, but this was
provided by her brother Srinivas Palanki.....
After finishing 12th grade at MIS, Gulabi joined LSR in Delhi to do B.A.
economics. She absolutely hated it and quit after a month and joined the Nehru
Homeopathic College in Delhi where she completed a 5 year course to become a
Doctor of Homeopathy. She got married in 1986 to A. Suryanarayan. Given her
husband's transferrable job at ONGC, she and her family have had the pleasure of
doing the "Bharat darshan" and have lived in Shivsagar (Assam), Rajamundry
(Andhra Pradesh), Chennai (Tamil Nadu),Surat (Gujarat) and are currently in
Mumbai (Maharashtra). She has two kids, Karna (15) and Swati (12). |

Aditya Ahluwalia ahluwalia@optonline.net I managed to graduate in Eco from Hansraj College in 1983. College was a great experience. Cut my hair, smoked pot and got into mountaineering!
After college and joined an NGO in their Data Base and documentation section. I soon became a data base expert and represented India in Data Base Management Conferences in UN. Joined my Dad’s business in 1986. My dad’s partners fired me just a month before I was to be married in 1989. Met my wife (Anu) when she was studying in DCE. Yes she is a computer engineer, PMP and more qualified than me. I had to woo her for three years before she agreed to marry me!
After getting fired, started my own below-the-line advertising agency soon after
I was approached by HK Telecom to be their rep in India. I gave up the agency and concentrated on the telecom business. During this time I had my first son (Akshay – now 14). He went to Mirambika for first two years. In 1997, I sold my share of the business to my partner and moved to NY. I restarted my telecom business, acquired a few companies in US, Ukraine, Macedonia, Indonesia, Guatemala and Taiwan. Reinvested in India about 3 yrs ago and am presently concentrating on this and so travel to India a lot. I also had my second son - Auro now 3- as well moved to Colts Neck, NJ my present home.
Somewhere along the way I
started this wonderful magazine – Life Positive which is in its 9th
year of publication. This is a holistic personal growth magazine. I also set up
the Life Positive Foundation. I have been in constant touch with the Ashram and
School. I am a member of Sri Aurobindo Education Society and a trustee of Sri
Aurobindo Centre in New York. I am being awarded the ‘Delhi Ratan’ on the 7th
of November 2004 by the All India Conference of Intellectuals for my
“outstanding contribution to the society in the field of Peace and
Spirituality”.

Gautam Sinha gautam@commvault.com The first 6 years: 80-86: Spent 6-weeks at home (Manipur) after the board exam. Came back to Delhi and parked in Ravi's Garage along with
Tallu and others waiting for the elusive “Admissions Notice”. It came. Well, for all the other guys, that is. 8 weeks later was beginning to wonder if higher education was in my karma, when it finally happened! Two came in - BITS (physics); Ahmedabad (EC Eng.) Figured Eng was more hip and took off to A’bad. Hated the place right away (you have NO idea what bad food if till you see the stuff they serve in the hostels in Gujarat!). Started making frequent trips to Delhi where I piled on with Jaini and Daren Yawar. Got broke - someone ratted to the family that I was spending all my money in trips to Delhi instead of buying books! – thus ended my trips to Delhi… Slept through 4 years of Eng, woke up (slightly) and landed in MBA school. Played soccer for a club in ADFA league and got my Tae-Kwo
brown belt. By that time I had become a semi-pucca gujju bhai, got used to
sugar in everything! Did my summer internship at Dalal Consultants and figured
the extra cash was nice, and worked for them part-time my 2nd year
MBA.
The next 3.5 years: 86-89- MBA done. Joined a small company in B’BY, ready to
apply all the wonderful stuff I sorta learned in school. Immediately learned
that those days “Marketing” is “Sales” spelt incorrectly. Gave it a shot for 6
months and quit before they fired me. Joined Tata Burroughs aka Tata Unisys aka
Tata Infotech. Did time in Bombay SEEPZ office for a year. Jan 1st
, 88 – got shipped to Florida for a project that was immediately cancelled so it
became a 2 month holiday. Got shipped to LA area at a Unisys S/W dev site and
finally paid my overdue dues – 14 hr days 6-7 days a week. Got back to BBY Jan
89. It was the “slow economy” days …. Nothing much to do but just play packman
and drink up the town – most conveniently the ground floor of our apt. was a
bar. On the whole, the TBL days were an extension of the college/MIS days with
deeper pockets…
89
and Beyond: The old liver started complaining and some ex-TBL buddies talked me
into joining a Consulting Company. So, off to Boston, where I spent a year
including one coooollllld and miserable winter. Mid 1990 – off to Unisys San
Jose. 7 years of writing tons of code, managing several eng depts, green card,
etc. etc. 1994 - Met Garima a beautiful, wonderful and talented lady from
UP/Bangalore. 1995 – married! Yup, still wonder what she sees in me… 1997 - had
Gurutam our 1st born; Built West Coast operations for a company (CyberTech)
in Philadelphia that was started by a friend. 1999- Had Satchi, our 2nd
…; started my own company; merged with another and rode the dot.com hoopla –
raised 25M and all that stuff… Early-2001 had enough and decided to take a year
off! Started working on a book - Yes a cook-book of all the things! Yes, I am
a pretty mean cook and I have many a burnt kitchen in my wake to prove it.
Early 2002: Garima got jealous of me having such a good time and ordered me to
do something useful (by now you should know who wears the pants in the family)
... After evaluating several options I landed in CommVault. I run Engineering
Operations in Western US and South America… The rest we shall see...

I was the little guy from BL who was reasonably well
known, I suppose. Anyway after MIS appeared for Medical from Rajasthan but all
my dreams of becoming a Doc. were buried as my GrandDad had other ideas and
wanted me to join the family business. So joined business at the same time doing
BSc Hons. From Deshbandhu. Diversified the family business and specialised in
launching new technologies in medical field in India and have been instrumental
in introducing many new techniques in Minimally invasive cardiology and cardiac
surgery in India. Have well-established business with offices in various cities
of India. Got married to my beautiful wife Poonam, who is into Jewelry
designing, in 1988 and have two great kids in Nikita (12) and Tushar (10)
studying at Modern, Delhi. Life has been wonderful and taught lot of
things though still miss out on the wonderful days spent at MIS and visits to
Nainital and Pondicherry. This is interesting since during my recent visit to
Boston met another Ex from MIS three years our senior who is very successfully
practicing cosmetic and plastic surgery and had a great time with him recounting
our days and those long assembly sessions of spiritual songs with Anna Didi at
MIS.

Monty Bedi montybedi@yahoo.com
I have two wonderful kids - when they are not at each others throats. My son Karun is nine and my daughter Rhea is six. I have been married to Simbal my lovely wife (when she is not at my throat) for thirteen years. “Boards” were really bad for me. After high school I worked in the family’s export business for couple of years and then escaped to US to get this thing called education. Got masters in artificial intelligence (had to compensate for the lack of real thing)… did some research … taught some undergrad courses … did some work for DOD … became a nerd. Then I got wiser … worked on the Wall Street for fifteen years … moved to Toronto three years back … now getting restless for change. I do have passions and dreams - some kosher and many not so kosher, but I think it will be better if I keep them to myself (for now anyway)!!!

Ravi Jain rjain@egartech.com After school, went to IIT Delhi where I had a really difficult time as believe it or not i became a bit of a "vela". But graduated in 1984 and ended up in the US. Worked at IBM for a year and a half and then got a jobat Mocatta Metals - a very progressive derivatives trading company. Those days Wall street had started hiring engineers etc. in trading. Learnt options and 2 yrs later went to Republic National Bank. Became a specialist in options and derivatives and ran the global FX and metals options trading desk there. Left due to politics (which I was not good at) in 1999 and joined a technology firm FNX Ltd. After a year did a buyout of a small division of FNX and co-founded a company EGAR Technology where I am presently. Just celebrated by 18th anniversary with Preeti - an ABCD Sikhni that I met in NY. We enjoyed many wonderful years in NY City and then in 1995 adopted our first child from India. Soon after we had 3 more kids in succession. So I now have 3 girls (Shivani - 9, Simran - 6 and Suchin - 5) and a boy (Divyan - 3 1/2). I must say I am truly blessed with such a wonderful family. Till recently we lived in the NY area and now have moved to Kennett Square, Pennsylvania.

Guys, after I passed out of MIS, I joined Econ. hons in Kirori Mal College (at the same time that Harpreet and Aditya were in Hans Raj) passed out in 1983 (managed not to flunk!), got into Delhi School of Economics for M.A.,(where Harpreet was my classmate), passed out in 1985, taught for about a couple of years in Hans Raj College and PGDAV college in Delhi, took Civil Services exams, became a bureaucrat (for some time I was in the Ministry of Commerce as Controller of Exports and Imports). Hated it coz this was the pre-liberalisation era and my Eco education had made me hate controls and over-regulation in the economy. At the earliest opportunity, resigned, took a qualifying exam, faced an interview, and joined the Indira Gandhi National Open University in 1989, where I have been ever since in the Department of Economics. Soon after joining, recieved my M.Phil degree. Since this is a 9.30-6 (at least) job, unlike most edu institutions, it took me many many years to even register for a Ph.Dm which I will submit next June and get to be full Pro. from Assoc. Prof. I got married in 1991 to Rekha Sharma who is in IGNOU in the are of Child Development/Psychology. We have 2 daughters Devika (9) and Shivani (6) who are both in DPS. |

I did my post
graduation from the College of Vocational Studies, Delhi University in Book
Publishing with Editing as my majoring subject. Started work at Thomson Press,
Faridabad that lasted for just about a year owing to the distance from home. My
father was transferred to Calcutta in
'84 so moved to Calcutta for a year.
Came back to
Delhi in '85 and landed a job as copy editor, SPAN magazine, American
Embassy. Worked there for 10 years, got married in between to Sanjiv. I met
Sanjiv in course of my work while in Calcutta. He is heading the Indian company
of Springer-Verlag, a major German medical publishing company (the medical folks
of our batch might be familiar with the name).
We have two
boys, Rasesh (14+) and Sanchit (just turned 12). Both study at the St. Columba's
School.
Quit the SPAN job in '96 for the "tender"
demands of the children and freelanced for a few years till the boys grew
independent and did not need me around all the time. Worked for a couple of
years with Encyclopaedia Britannica and now I am with the European Commission.

I graduated from IIT, Delhi in 1985. It was
quite hectic
while I was at IIT. I came to the US to
do MS in computer science. I worked for 4 years as a computer consultant
(glorified title for a programmer) in the NY area. After that, I came back to do
my Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh, PA. Pittsburgh was a wonderful town
and I had lot of Indian culture. After finishing my Ph.D., I came to U. of
Wisconsin as a faculty.
I am married to Sarita and have a son (Akshaya,
17) and daughter (Ankita, 7). I enjoy music and tennis. My biggest regret is
that I did not pay attention to music while at MIS. I am having to learn the
indian classical music using books, which is a pain.
